School Tour Information

We have had a number of schools visit Laurel View Farm over the years, from primary through to high schools and colleges. The Paddock to Plate tour is ideal for students studying Food Technology, Agriculture, and Hospitality & Tourism. However, we find the education of simply showing the journey from paddock to plate and understanding more about where food comes from is of benefit to all.

Maugers Paddock to Plate tour is an interactive & enjoyable educational excursion for school groups and one that may be tailored to meet specific educational requirements. For example: the tour may concentrate on aspects of farming, or food technology assessment topics. John can take questions on farming, meat production and butchery either informally on the day or pre-prepared.

The 3-hour tour includes:

  • Welcome and morning tea.
  • An introduction to the farm and grass-fed beef and lamb farming methods.
  • Livestock inspection, learn about different breeds on the farm, how and why they are selected.
  • ‘Art of Butchery’ demonstration, beef boning demonstration with Q&A.
  • Lunch, meat sampling.

 

School curriculum synergies

As an example, the Paddock to Plate tour would be suitable for Stage 6 (Year 11 & 12) Food Tech and Agriculture student studying the following topics;

  • Agriculture animals and their commercial production, farm management, a farm case study, social aspects surrounding agriculture, agricultural history and systems.
  • Food Tech food availability and selection, food quality, the Australian Food Industry, Food Product Development

 

Tour cost/inclusions & exclusions

We are happy to work with to you to ensure your educational outcomes are met and can highlight specific topics, accommodate pre/post questionnaires, worksheets etc. as necessary. Insurances/Risk assessment

Reservation/Cancellation

A 25% deposit is payable to confirm your booking.

Our cancellation policy is as follows:

  • 60 days prior to tour date: full refund of deposit.
  • Between 60 and 30 days prior to the tout date: refund of 50% of the deposit.
  • Less than 30 days prior to the tour date: deposit forfeited.
